The Power of Saying No: Letting Go of What Doesn’t Help You.
Prolonged pain and constant struggles can turn us negative, making us focus on what’s wrong and block out the good around us. It’s easy to fall into blaming others or getting stuck in negativity.
But we have a choice. LISTEN! You can decide what you allow into your life. You and I have a choice over what we see, hear, and who we spend time with. If certain people or situations cause you stress, anxiety, or place an imposition on your time and energy, it’s important to ask yourself: Why do you continue to accept this?
Identify the things, events, or people that affect your peace, and decide to set healthy boundaries around them.
When I worked in substance use treatment, we often reminded patients that part of healing meant making wise choices about their environment. That meant saying no to certain invitations, distancing themselves from harmful influences, and choosing to be around people who supported their growth.
So, starting today, protect your peace, and intentionally choose the people and things that nourish your soul and move you forward.
